Honouring Lee’s Legacy: Edible Earth Dedication to the HBF Run for a Reason 2025

Honouring Lee’s Legacy: Edible Earth Dedication to the HBF Run for a Reason 2025

At Edible Earth, we believe in the power of connection—to nature, to each other, and to the values that guide us. This belief is at the heart of everything we do, and it’s a legacy that our founder, Sarah, holds close as she prepares for the HBF Run for a Reason on May 25, 2025.

This year, Sarah and her children Indi and Olli, are lacing up their running shoes for a cause that is deeply personal. They are running in memory of Lee, Sarah’s beloved fiance and the children’s father, who tragically lost his life to an aggressive brain tumour, glioblastoma multiforme (GBM), unmethylated, wild type. Lee’s passing at 36 years old, left an indelible mark on their lives and a deep grief no child should ever have to experience at such a young age, but it also ignited a passion to make a difference for others facing similar battles, and a purpose to prevent chronic disease.

Sarah and her kids are fundraising for three incredible organisations: the Charlie Teo Foundation, which supports cutting-edge research into brain cancer; Camp Quality, bringing joy and support to children impacted by cancer and those who've lost a parent to cancer; and Lifeline, providing critical mental health services to those in need, during a time where the mental healthcare system is failing. These charities reflect the values Lee held dear—compassion, resilience, and a commitment to helping others.

Dr Charlie Teo performed Lee's 2nd of 4 major brain tumour resection surgeries, Prince of Wales, Sydney.

A Legacy of Health and Healing

Edible Earth was born out of Lee’s vision to create a world where chronic disease is prevented, and suffering is alleviated through holistic health and a deep connection to nature. Edible Earths philosophy is the belief that by reconnecting with the earth and each other, we could heal not only our bodies and minds, but also our communities. This is woven into every aspect of Edible Earth, from our free events, to our products, as we strive to honour his legacy.

Sarah’s participation in the HBF Run for a Reason is more than just a race—it’s a tribute to Lee’s enduring spirit and a testament to the power of turning grief into action, and pain into purpose. Through this event, Sarah and her children hope to raise awareness about the importance of brain cancer research, mental health support, and the healing power of nature and connection.

The Impact of HBF Run for a Reason

The HBF Run for a Reason is one of Western Australia’s most iconic community events, bringing together thousands of participants each year to raise funds for causes close to their hearts. In 2024, the event saw over 30,000 participants come together, raising an incredible $3.5 million for more than 500 charities. These funds have made a tangible difference in the lives of countless individuals and families, supporting vital research, mental health services, and community programmes.

Sarah and her family are proud to be part of this inspiring movement in 2025 for the first time, and they hope to contribute to the event’s ongoing impact. Their goal is not only to raise funds but also to shine a light on the importance of supporting those affected by cancer and mental health challenges.

Join Us in Making a Difference

We invite you to support Sarah and her family as they take on this meaningful challenge. Every donation, no matter how small, brings us one step closer to a world where fewer families have to endure the pain of losing a loved one to cancer, or mental illness.

A Journey of Hope and Healing

As Sarah and her children train for the run, they carry Lee’s memory with them every step of the way. Their journey is a reminder that even in the face of loss, there is hope, and even in the darkest times, we can find light through connection, community and the healing powers of nature.

At Edible Earth, we are proud to stand with Sarah and her family as they honour Lee’s legacy and work towards a healthier, more compassionate world. Together, we can make a healthier, happier world where no one is left behind— one step at a time.

Edible Earth exists to inspire holistic health and longevity, reconnect people with nature, and one another, and to empower people to take control of their future health by making small, consistent habitual changes to bring the body back to balance, naturally.
